The LEAF Outreach Team is a group of motivated interns who take an active role in promoting a culture of sustainability at UMD. LEAF stands for Lead, Educate, Act, Facilitate – this is what LEAF Team members do!  You might see LEAF Team members at special events, games, gatherings, or just hanging out, promoting and rewarding green practices on campus.

What does the LEAF Team do?

  • Catch you riding your bike, composting, turning out the lights or unplugging your phone charger. If you are caught "Greenhanded," you will be rewarded for your action.
  • Show you how to reuse, recycle, upcycle, freecycle. Have too many t-shirts? Learn how to turn one into a reusable bag.
  • Teach you about enviromental issues like food miles, carbon footprints and power vampires.
  • Help you compost your food waste at Stamp Student Union or Dining Halls.
  • Recommend green actions you can take such as carrying a reusable water bottle, purchasing an OZZI or carpooling to the grocery store.

"The LEAF Team participates in events and activities that link the campus community to important environmental issues. We give students of various majors and backgrounds and opportunity to learn about sustainablity."
